Mostly trail running. The mountains around Plett are hard to ignore, and some days the honest work is just: foot, foot, don’t trip on that root.
A few races I’ve done are below. There’s a sample day on the Tsitsikamma in Notes from the Tsitsikamma Ultra.
MUT
The Mountain Ultra-Trail by UTMB, in George — part of the UTMB World Series. The Outeniquas rise right off the town: fynbos, old forest, and from the high points the Indian Ocean one way and the Karoo the other. I ran it. The kind of day that stays in your legs.
I organise this one
Tsitsikamma Ultra
A challenging 50km trail run with 2,500m of elevation, from Storms River to Covie — indigenous forest, mountain trail, rivers, and wild coastal ground. There’s also a Lite: about 30km, starting at Lottering Forestry Station and finishing in Covie. Their line is “Run Like The Trees Are Cheering,” which is about right.
I built the website, too — tsitsikammaultra.co.za.
