Websites that feel like a conversation

This is sample MDX content for Plett Pixels. Replace it with a case study, a rant about carousels, or both.

Most websites are trying to throw a party in the hallway. Popups, autoplay, a hero video of nobody in particular walking across a loft. I would like fewer parties, please.

At Plett Pixels I try to make sites that talk at a normal volume:

  1. Say the thing. Who you are, what you do, how to reach you. In that order, before the fold if we can.
  2. Load quickly. People in Plett are often on a phone, sometimes on a hillside, occasionally while waiting for a cappuccino.
  3. Don’t decorate instead of writing. A good sentence beats a tasteful grey overlay on a stock photo of a handshake.

That last one is personal. I spend enough of the week steaming milk that I have a low tolerance for foam that isn’t doing any work.

This post is an MDX file, which means it can include components later if you want a code sample or a little widget. For now it’s just words, which is usually enough.

If you need a site, tell me who it’s for. If you already have a site that shouts, we can teach it some manners. Either way: no carousels unless you can explain, out loud, why the second slide exists.
